Analysis of Winning love

Eileen Goldberg 1950 (Brooklyn)

Before I knew that you were here
I never really knew
that right before my very eyes, I’d
watch my dream come true.
Resist, I did, with all my might,
but soon all walls were out of sight.
A courtship of the sweetest kind
then stole me body, soul and mind.
My heart began a new beat too,
my greatest joy in life now you.
I didn’t expect that you would come,
I never knew you’d be the one.
You never faltered, never quit
your heart kept saying this is it.
And so you came here every day
in your quiet, unassuming way.
Urged me gently, made me see
just how happy we could be
What is life if not to live?
What good is love that you don’t give?
I had no answer, this is true
and so I gave my heart to you.
