Friends forever

I lost my best friend today.
She died, horrid pain.
There’s no possible way
I’ll ever be the same.
A lifetime of sharing
our hearts and our love.
None in life more caring,
than Theresa, white dove.
As children we played games,
we laughed and we sang.
We grew into young teens.
Maturity began
I laugh as I think that thought
“ Theresa, and I? Mature?
Who us? Never! We’d say
she and I.
But life  made us grow up,
each in her own way.
As we faced the challenge of living
each day.
Phone calls kept us close and
the children inside shared memories
and laughter and continued
to thrive.
The sadness I face as my child stands
alone
Is one that I’ve prayed to never
have known.
Of course, all things end,
I know this is true.
I never planned  for this, don’t know
what to do.
Our journey’s  not over, not
supposed to be.
I have no one to travel these
last days with me.

About this poem

After 47 years, a person becomes as much a part of you as your own flesh. Love, however endures all things, so our relationship will be eternal.
