Analysis of Church Pillar. Farmer.

He washed up nicely

Left those coveralls

And farm dust

For the day.

Took the Ford 500

Into Town a might early

Saw old friends at Ethel’s

Good grub and coffee

Before time to pray.

Called to mind Barbara

Gone now these five years

More than his right arm

He held back some tears.

Baptist pew waiting

And friends of the Covenant

Music that taught much

And handshakes so fine.

Remembering his face

Gently nodding and radiant

Words from the Good Book

And sight to the blind.

We were just children

He set the standard

Christ at the centre

And Christ in each deed

Hope for the future

All shining together

Help for the present

And Life’s every need.

About this poem

The New Testament says that we must do every deed, every vocation as if unto Christ. Farmers who see things grow, things reproduce, rains fall to quench thirsty earth, have no problem throwing their lot in with the Creator and Saviour. Their Best Friend.
