Analysis of Defiant me
Joseph Berolo 1934 (Bogotá)
Knowingly defiant of things gone awry,
I feel the endless pain it causes to rebel
against rebellion, when, not in chivalry,
the struggle is for evil, not to excel.
Deliver me ¡Oh Furies! from inferno unchained,
when submerged in the judgment of myself,
do to preclude, while sane, the preordained
defying thirst to let it all be a damming hell.
¡Oh, How do I abhor to have and to posses
what is not obtained with grace and care!
¡Oh, How much delight when earned praise
is a given, not a gain for some belated dare!
¡Oh, How do I abhor to be a defiant being!
when in noble cause the trophy is earned,
not a gift of mercy, but the gentle passing
of an air of earned quest to last as well.
