Analysis of A Person Within A Shell

Susan L Dexter 1965 (West Springfield, MA)

I am a person within a shell
It can feel like hell
For I am trapped within
I don’t know where to begin
I can’t release my thoughts or ideas
I don’t think many thoughts are ideal

I am a person within a shell
I have no one else I can tell
For I can’t express my emotions
Sometimes my feelings are like a locomotion
They spin in many directions that makes to many emotions

I am a person within a shell
It feels as if I fell into a well
My mind goes all over the place
It makes me feel I need my own space
I sometimes feel trapped
Sometimes I feel I need a decompression wrap

I am a person within a shell
That doesn’t work to well
I can see and hear somethings
I wish that I could do everything
It isn’t easy being a person trapped within a shell

Susan L Dexter

I have 15+ years of experience working with special needs students and now I work for a non profit organization that has services for children and teens for in home therapy and therapeutic mentoring. I have written poems off and on throughout my life. It is a form of therapy you can kind of say. All my poems are things that I have experienced. This poem is how someone that is non verbal might feel but can't express those feelings or anything at all. They have no other way to communicate their needs, wants or anything. more…
