Analysis of Nostalgic for Nothing
Emilia Hulson 2005 (St. Paul)
It's a lights off in the house, cloudy skies as a light source day.
It's bittersweet and slightly sleepy.
For small crafts in soft silence with quiet music, the type you could easily tune out if you tried, if you wanted too.
It's a day you have for this and nothing else.
For when it feels like how warm fog feels on your skin.
For contemplative silence and nostalgia for a feeling you can't quite place, for memories you haven't had.
Like the hour or so before dusk, when you start to realize it's not really day anymore.
For when petty rivalries fall away because there's no need for them.
When you can't speak up, because you don't have the strength, and you wouldn't want to even if you could.
When the calmness is as contagious as sleep after deprivation.
It's for staring off into nothing, not needing a reason or explanation to exist.
For sweaters and blankets even though it's warm enough already.
For when life fills up and if you move too much you might spill some, so you have no choice but to sit, and accept everything as it is.
