Analysis of When I Look At You
Kenya Stephens 1995 (Van Wert)
I see the sun, the stars, and the moon.
I see the colors of a rainbow after a storm.
When the light touches those brown eyes,
it looks like a pool of warm honey.
The way your face lights up as you talk about the things you love.
The way you laugh when you watch a funny movie.
Not only do I see the positives but also the negatives.
I see the little boy who's trapped in the toxic environment.
He tries to come out to play but cannot.
I see the sadness.
The emptiness as the yelling gets louder.
I can tell that you have a hundred thoughts going through your mind, but the words will not come out.
I know you're trying your best!
You do not have to try to sell me a story.
I see what I see,
No one can change my mind.
What I don't see is this terrible person that your mind tells you that you are.
I don't see this fat blob of uselessness.
I don't see a lazy person who's not a man.
I see a human!
I see a man!
I see my soulmate!
I see a beautiful soul!
When I look at you,
you make the world stop.
It's like I'm in a cartoon and I get those heart eyes.
The cute little blue birds start to fly around my head.
Lord, when you look at me though.
That's another story to tell.
