Analysis of Those Sometimes

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

There always seem to come,
Those sometimes.
Most of us have,
Kept in our minds to reminisce wishes.

Like the sometimes many of us will sit,
To wonder why...
Procrastinating,
Became a talent we were gifted with.
And doing more to do that.
Than to get up to explore and permit,
Adventure into our routine to live lives.

There always seem to come,
Those sometimes most of us have.
Wishing to have ignored,
A routine to follow.
To accept the boredom of it.
Only to perceive,
Our doing something unexpected...
Would not appease to impress,
Others for years we had expressed...
Together.
How fortunate and blessed we were,
To be normal and stable.
Unlike so many,
Who could care less what we thought.
As they went about living their lives.
Happy.
Without signs of having regrets about it.

And when those sometimes come.
More often to visit as if to remind,
Time is moving fast...
For the ones of us growing old and aging.
Many of 'them' will be heard to say,
Maybe it is not too late...
'To improve upon my posture.
By exercising.
And watching what I eat.
To ensure I don't overdue the calories!'

Those sometimes,
Are not always those times...
We find,
Necessary to change our minds...
About a normalcy,
That is neither beneficial.
Or improves,
A quality of life.
That remains to stay,
Stubbornly unchanged.

'Excuse me.
And...
I don't mean to be disrespectful.
Are you all in the right place?
God knows you all,
Have aged to earn...
Both my patience and respect.
But those dirt bikes and motorcycles,
You all are examining?
Would they be for your children,
Their children?
Or...
Your great grandchildren?'

'And...uh...
What to us are you implying?'

'Well...
I assumed when you all,
Entered into our showroom...
With canes and wheels on your walkers.
You were out to select gifts,
For those special in your lives.'

'And...
That we are.
Gifted and blessed with youth.
I would like to test drive,
That Harley-Davidson over there.
I keep having these visions,
Of the police chasing me.
But...
I will need your assistance to get on it!
Oh...
And by the way,
Between you and me...
Don't pay attention to my arthritis.
I took pain killers before we arrived!
The cane?
Just a fashion statement.
And my hip replacement?
I was glad that was done,
A few months ago!'

'There are always those sometimes.
You know...
Those sometimes at times to wish back!'

'Wishing?
I ain't wishing for nothing.
I'm going to show and prove to you,
What it is I can do.
Here...
Hold my cane.
And watch where you place your hands.
I am not that easy to heat up.
Trust me.
I'm not as young as I look!
So don't get any wild ideas.
I've been around too many blocks.
You got that?
Ssss...owww...easy. easy.
There we go.

Now...
If you don't mind.
How do I turn this thing on?'
