Analysis of Too Much At The Same Time
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
I am learning to admit,
I think too much about different stuff.
At the same time.
Believing myself to be ambidextrous.
And one of those multi-taskers.
Only to find my mind,
Looking for keys, socks and shoes.
Either already in my hands.
Or on my feet.
Wondering where they could be.
My Nephew Landry once said to me,
'Maybe Uncle Larry...
You should experience what it is,
To just chill out and sit.
Give your mind a rest.
And discover not thinking at all.
Is the best thing to do.
You make yourself the one confused.'
And...
To him it seems,
I always have to prove...
Just because I am growing up in age.
Don't take my ability,
To be wise and knowledgeable...
As a way to determine,
Me, your uncle to be crazed.
When I maybe just testing...
My suspicions of your intelligence.
And a common sense,
You once in your youth...
I did not witness displayed.
Leaving him then to say,
'But, Uncle Larry?
What I did in my youth,
You still do.
And...
I'm not nearly your age!'
He's 51 years old.
A father of 3 grown daughters.
And a grandfather of 2 boys.
But still these 'kids'...
Grow up to believe,
And think...
They know everything about life.
To not yet experience,
Being forgetful on purpose!
'You mean to tell me,
You had been cooking?
And forgot you were doing that.
To then hear the fire alarm go off.
With smoke filling your apartment?
Not to notice where it was coming from?
And you want me to believe,
What you did had been done...
On purpose?
That's crazy!'
Again...
There you go,
Trying to assess...
The purpose of my experiences!
And don't be shaking your head.
One day you will agree,
Learning is an ongoing process!
'Uh...
For some that is true.
But for those stubborn few...?'
Go ahead.
I'm listening.
'For what and to who?'
