Analysis of Born to be Different

Born to be Different

Why was I born into this world so vast
And plagued with such uncertainty?
Why did my mother bring me into this world
Where I have fit like a broken puzzle piece?

Why is this world spiraling upward, then downward
And completely out of control?
Light has evaded me, and I sit alone in pitch blackness.
I can hear my mother crying-
I give her the gift of my soul with hope to ease her pain.

Weeping with bitterness she has left me
In a lonesome and wretched state.
Guilt settles rudely and I am standing
Upon the brink of disaster.

Why does my mother lie so still,
While she stares at the ceiling
through the whites of her eyes?
I try to assemble the broken pieces
Of that wooden puzzle of madness.

I have tried to walk steadily upon
This worn, cobblestone pavement,
Where I have tripped and fallen so many times.

Why did my mother bring me into this world
When her mind was so consumed with sadness?
Why did she conceive
When her past was none but a road to bedlam?
I witness demons upon every pathway that I walk.

I would ask my mother why was I born to be different?
She stares back at me through
the whites of her eyes, without conviction,
as I forlornly walk away….
