Analysis of Ivy

Ivy clings to an ancient wall

An emerald gown flowing

Across crumbling brick and mortar

No mighty trunk is visible

But its tendrils have worried

Their way into every crevice

If the ivy were pulled down now,

The mortar would come with it

And the wall would tumble

I am the ancient wall

And you are the ivy growing

Up the framework of my masonry

I was doing you a favor, at first

Providing you the support to grow

And feel the sun, and flourish

You have penetrated my cracks

And I no longer know at all

Which of us is supporting the other

I do not know that it matters

I would fall without you and

You could not grow without me

So, we can continue to grow

Together, intertwined, one

Ivy and wall, wall and ivy
