Ivy

Ivy clings to an ancient wall

An emerald gown flowing

Across crumbling brick and mortar



No mighty trunk is visible

But its tendrils have worried

Their way into every crevice



If the ivy were pulled down now,

The mortar would come with...

Or reading in a tattered dime-store Western,

or both,

That a man could starve to death eating rabbits.



No matter how many black-tipped jacks or

Small, plump cottontails one...
