Analysis of Carnival Madness

Coins fall in a myriad of colors, as
Confetti thrown at a surprise party-
From a place that could be heaven

Listen:
None but a celebration- dancing waters
Rise and fall to the tune of shards of metal dancing upon a tin drum-
Drop a coin in a fountain, no matter how fluorescent the color.

My thoughts are muted, as
Cotton fills each hollow space inside my brain
A strange and inexplicable sensation it is-
I count backwards sixty five years-
A power struggle, it is, against the romances of nature
.
Every clock ticks as
Each hand, second by second advances, carrying me to the unknown?
Ashes to ashes, to hell or towards heaven,
I am enticed by this carnival madness.

Coins fall from where heaven could be.
I hear strange voices within a charnel house,
While discordant symphonies play on.

Pendulums sway, as metronomes beat,
While my night was sleepless-
I could never catch a handful of coins- no matter how colorful,
As they awkwardly fell from the sky.

I hold in memory every sleepless night
While carnivals continue to play
It doesn’t matter how colorful rainbows are,
Or how close I am to heaven-

Life is indeed a power struggle,
Against the romances of nature,
None but an eerie celebration…
