Analysis of THE REIGN OF ERROR

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

In ’75 Mad Malcolm said,
“Dole bludgers get the chop!”
Now the Libs-Nats are back in power
And the error never stops.

In ’75 the working classes
Were treated like mere vermin;
Now Johnny Howard’s on the warpath
And we’re told we’re less than human.

“Only bosses matter now!”
Said Mad Malcolm in 1975;
Now the Libs are rampaging again
And there’s no reason to be alive.

“More for rich, less for poor,”
Said that screaming loony Frazer;
“So what if unemployed starve?”
Said Johnny, “The Libs don’t care!”

“So what if all the pensioners
Are reduced to begging?” asked Mal;
“Who cares about the pensioners?”
Asked Johnny.   “Old fogies can go to Hell!”

In 1975 old Screaming Mal
Abandoned Medibank cover;
“So what?” asked Johnny selling Medicare,
“Let the sick and dying all suffer!”
