Analysis of NIGHT EAGLES

Night eagles souring
Just above the line of sight,
Seeking human victims
To snatch off in the night.

Inches above the rooftops
Night fiends silently sail,
Watching late night passer-byes
Following on their trail.

Till claws and beaks fall
Upon unsuspecting prey,
Nothing but a cuprous stain
Is found by the light of day.

Winged furies tearing
At the heads and at the necks,
Of those they foully swoop upon
To rip, and rend, and peck.

No-one can ever see them
As they glide within the dark,
To pounce on lovers courting
Out in a royal park.

Bodies ripped and rent
Defying all explanations,
As in the light of day
The bodies are stumbled upon.

Fearing a wild dog pack
Nobody bothers looking up,
As night fiends descend on
Street folk in their cups.

Night and day the call goes on
To find the feral beasts,
And after dark night eagles
Swoop, and rend, and feast.
