HOUSE ON CEMETERY HILL

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

In the house on Cemetery Hill
Evil creatures lie in wait,
Waiting patiently for innocents
To move into this foul estate.

Lurking beasts slowly stir
As nightfall quickly descends,
Hoping for the guileless to enter
Before the malignant night ends.

Grotesqueries hide by daylight
Sleeping the sunlight away,
Then slinking into the open
At night, the monsters play.

Creeping death is lurking
Within the wavering shadows,
Awaiting naive travellers
To fill the dreams with horrors.

In the house on Cemetery Hill
Ancient evil surely resides,
Beings from the Mesozoic Era
And phantoms newly died.

Monstrosities from out of time
Daemons too horrid to ever face,
Gargoyles from another realm
Abominations from out of space.

In the house on Cemetery Hill
Where Mutated things dwell,
The unsuspecting come to stay
And are trapped in an Earthly Hell.
