Analysis of Comes the Dawning

I drifted through childhood
In a fog of innocence and delight
Hoping for the magical moment
When I would lift my eyes to the sky
And I would fly into the clouds
Like a soaring bird

Then I grew older and discovered
There could be no flight without wings
No magic without sacrifice
No innocence left untouched
And I despaired that I would
Never know delight again

I have grown older still
And I have rediscovered delight
Innocence has been replaced
With knowledge and wisdom
Magic takes sacrifice
But with it comes flight.

Carla J Suggs

Masters in English/Creative Writing Currently writing several tales, one of which is the beginning of a science fiction series. I also write YA, romance, and fantasy; not necessarily in that order. I used to be an active poet on the old site. Luckily, I saved my poetry before the site tanked. I'm going to assume that all records of awards, publishing, and mentions are gone as well? A pity. more…
