I'm 54 years old and have been writing poetry off and on for a good chunk of my life starting in about 7th grade. Sometimes I get on a roll and can turn out a few poems in a short amount of time, other times I go through dry spells before writing again.

Where the sea kisses the shore,
The turquoise waters shimmer and dance,
And salt and Coppertone fill the air.

Summer Serenity

Another day ends.
And the summer night is falling.
I take my repose
On the front porch swing that's calling.

The warm breezes make
The scent of honeysuckle rise.
The yard is awash
With the twinkling of fireflies.

THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS

High upon my lofty perch
The Blue Ridge in full view
I noticed in the distance
A storm starting to brew.

Like a gray woolen blanket
On a cold winter's night
Clouds spread across the mountains
Shielding the sun's golden light.

NIGHT ON THE BEACH

The last light of day
Is slowly fading away,
As the warm ocean air
Dances lithely through our hair.

Twinkling from afar
Are the first glittering stars,
And suspended like a balloon
Glows the silvery summer moon.

Watching the waves crash...
