My journey with writing began when I was approximately sixteen years of age. As a former foster child, I can remember wondering where to turn or who I could talk to for help and emotional support. Of course, those closest came to mind. Yet, when my voice fell on deaf ears, I became lost and emotionally detached. Today, I understand more than ever, that my plight was not uncommon. There are children in foster care who suffer in silence every day. With the numerous agencies and organizations that exist to support us, there may be an assumption that foster children are afforded every opportunity that their biological parents were unable to provide. Yet, this may be far from true. In fact, foster children may not know that there are supports that benefit them directly. Therefore, I provide resources on my website solely for that purpose which includes a book catalog where my first book, "Black Butterfly: The Journey, the Victory," is listed. This is a book of poetry that speaks to the silence; it was written for those who are waiting for someone to articulate what they are trying to say or perhaps what they need to hear.

This poem touches on the harsh realities of life even while trying to find beauty among thorns. It depicts the constant effort to find air when all around seems stifling. Yet, it is the glimmer of hope that leaves me longing to hear more from this author.
