AUTHOR BIO Born in, Puerto Rico, George Colon survived the South Bronx’s. distractions to receive a street education, as well as degrees in English and education. Teaching English, history, geography and Spanish in Bronx schools for thirty years, after retiring he published a teacher novel, Confessions of a Rogue Teacher (iUniverse,2008). A second novel, To Kill President (iUniverse, 2011), explores the1950 suicidal assassination attempt on President Truman by members of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party. The assignation attempt was planned in the Bronx. After traveling a good part of the globe, he lays out his impression of its people, history, philosophy religion and politics in A Bronx Teacher’s Travels. His memoir, “A Bronx Teacher Saga: The Triumphs and Tribulations of a Puerto Rican English Teacher” tells of thirty classroom, years 1978 -2008 teaching English, Global and Spanish in Bronx high schools. Woven into my memoir’s fabric, find embroidered a Puerto Rican family journey from the cane fields, to the Promised Land. Also, a coming of age tale in the turbulent South Bronx, 1950’s and ‘60’s. His education. Also a historian, his 5th book is A Bronx Tapestry. From Jonas Bronck and the Indians, Ann Hutchinson, How the Bronx saved the American Revolution, Gouverneuer Morris of Morrisania, author of the Preamble of the U.S. Constitution. Edgar Allan Poe and Jordan Mott, to the fires, and then, the Phoenix rises. A history of his Precioso El Bronx. Outskirts Press. And a 6th book SOUTH BRONX TALES. Stories, mostly true. Some spooky. Outskirts Press. Parts of his memoir and poems appear in in various publications.
