    poe has a style unlike any other-- with just enough disconcerntion in his words to keep you on the precipice as you read his poems (or short stories), but also just enough curiosity that compels you to keep going.

    Visited the Poe Museum in Richmond. Very sad atmosphere. A journalist dealing in daily soup, who so much wanted to display in literature the haunting or surprising turns in living. His sik abd declining wife in the next room.

    Never forgot the one about the black house cat who got bricked up behind the makeshift wall hiding a corpse. Cops eventually heard the cat’s cries. Oops!
