Poems »

Living in South Africa. Was inspired at an early age to write poetry when I read a poem by D.H. Lawrence. This poem summed up my very jaded perspective of love and life.THE EFFORT OF LOVEI am worn outwith the effort of trying to love peopleand not succeeding. Now I've made up my mindI love nobody, I'm going to love nobody,I'm not going to tell any lies about itand it's final. If there's any man here, or a womanwhom I can really like, that's quite enough for me.And if by a miracle a woman had happened to come alongwho warmed the cockles of my heartI'd rejoice over the woman and the warmed cockles of my heartso long as it didn't all fizzle out in talk.
