The Perfect Rhyme

Kaushik Ghosh 1979 (Calcutta)

Your sofa cushions, matching curtains, that tinkling wind chime –
Peep in your heart and see, if my name makes a perfect rhyme
The cozy corner of your room and the areca palm
With morning sunlight on your feet, prevails the household calm
I can see the calm to prevail deep down in your life too
I thus wish to share my insignificant life with you.
Knowing, its something well beyond; something not meant to be
Yet I’m hoping against all hopes, you’ll come surely to me
Hoping against hope, you’ll peep in your heart – you’ll make some time
You’ll find my name there – you’ll find it to make a perfect rhyme.
