Old Mountain Town Cemetery In Snow

The faded photo of a navy officer twirls on a string in the night
and salutes the dark as neighbors repose, in wait
for another visit with mother and brother
when plows claw the ice out on roads below.

Here frosty red white and blue flags fly from last July,
slapped and whipped by a specter-driven gust
that bends and spins around a choir of evergreen
and bric-a-brac adorn dozens of sites for bones in sleep.

Deep in winter and unfinished with their last goodbyes
to the lost that mark their park below infinity's wink,
in mist, they wait for the talks with those that sigh
when visiting this old mountain town cemetery in snow.
