Knowledge
Understanding is a term we use to hide our fears,
It is a pillow we fall upon when the truth becomes too much.
Some see it as the ultimate knowledge of our world
But they don’t imagine anything beyond the horizon.
We find that if we understand something,
We no longer fear it.
Beyond words we find emotion.
Emotion is a feeling or unfinished picture,
Understanding is a given.
Emotion drives us or halts our progress
We cannot change or redirect it.
Others can influence us through it
Endangering who we are.
Dreams stay with us through every waking hour.
The unspoken wish or phobia that haunts us
Without our knowledge of its existence,
Constantly pushing us down a path
That was not our choice.
We attempt to break free and continue on our path,
But without interference
We would destroy ourselves.
Faith lives in every living thing
No matter the size.
It resides in the heart of every creature
We are born with its comfort.
Faith is then lost and replaced with fact as we learn.
Perhaps this is our greatest loss.
Faith enables us to reach beyond reason and science
To see the truth of our existence.
Everything links us to the past.
History refuses to be ignored,
Though it’s truth is decided by victors.
With each new discovery
We step closer to the top.
Still we must realize this earth has a life of its own
The next peace treaty should be with her.
Look again to the night sky.
We all see the same beautiful pattern
But we feel differently about the artist.
Wonder what another’s life is like.
From the new tree beginning life,
To the ancient ocean waves.
Now, tell me what understanding truly is.
