Just Be

Sorry.
I didn't become the person you all wished I would be.
I should've said this before it haunted me.
Words that lingered, stayed in mind
Words that scare me.

I got so busy being the person
that they all wished I would be;
I kept up the act until it takes over the reality.
Immersed in the fantasy, that I am the person
Everybody wants to see;
Until I lost the person I was supposed to be.

Sorry.
I didn't become the person you hoped I'd be.
I am not strong as any woman could be.
Seeing you all disappointed in me;
Makes me feel that I am not worthy.

Sorry.
You won't get to see me become the person
you all wished I would be,
The pain became unbearable and
everything turned into grey before me.

Embraced myself—
I will let myself be,
Jump freely and let it all be;
Like a dove in the sky
Flying in a never ending sea.

We never know how high we are Till we are called to rise; And then, if we are true to plan, Our statures touch the skies— The Heroism we recite Would be a daily thing, Did not ourselves the Cubits warp For fear to be a King— From 'We Never Know How High We Are' (1176) by Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) more…
