Choked Truth

With shrines merely built
as a camouflage
for not revealing the causing acts,
the past masks in sanity misfits,
and future hardships lie within.

Traumas evolve in pinching swirls,
draining soundness into swamps.
Explosive eruptions of blame emerge
from all these recollection dumps.

Whenever the sucking pools dry up,
truth has passed away long since -
mummified
in utter madness.

Ludy Bührs

The topics she writes about are very diverse, so are the poetry styles she applies. As a Dutch translator and poet, having lived in Cambodia's capital city Phnom Penh for 2.5 years, in 2008 she published "Op de ruïnes van een rijk" (On the Ruins of an Empire) ISBN 978-90-8834-483-1 with 60 poems based on her experiences there. In 2007 she received a Certificate of Accomplishment as one of The Best Poems and Poets of 2007 issued by poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry for her poem Choked Truth, her own translation of "Verstikte waarheid", one of the poems in the book. Born in 1956, she still works as an independent translator, translating from English into Dutch. more…

    Vixility,
Thanks for sharing Bergson’s perspective and insight pertaining to the therapeutic healing powers of our spiritual selves that implicitly can inoculate us from societal harm and injury when we chose to be under its guidance.

Incredibly intense!—pearly shiny sepulchers on the outside, but rot and death within.

Incidentally, I read the following quote earlier today:

“Fortunately, some are born with spiritual immune systems that sooner or later give rejection to the illusory worldview grafted upon them from birth through social conditioning. They begin sensing that something is amiss, and start looking for answers. Inner knowledge and anomalous outer experiences show them a side of reality others are oblivious to, and so begins their journey of awakening. Each step of the journey is made by following the heart instead of following the crowd and by choosing knowledge over the veils of ignorance.”

Truth swallowed up by monuments of lies becomes the burial ground for all honesty that dies.

    Dutch version

    Verstikte waarheid
    met gedenktekens die zijn opgericht
    louter om te camoufleren
dat duistere daden de doofpot ingaan
    toont verleden een ziekmakend masker
waarachter nieuw leed toe kan slaan
    trauma’s leiden tot nijpende kolken
    een feitendrainage richting moeras
verwijt explodeert als een giftig gas
    uit belten van herinnering
    vallen ooit de slijkpoelen droog
is waarheid al lang verrekt -
    gelooid
    in totale gekte
