Promise Fulfilled

Tom Kottackal 1051 (Angamaly)

The Promise Fulfilled

I will create enmity between
You and the woman and,
Her offspring and your offspring
He will crush your head and,
You will strike at his feet.
That’s a great promise of God.

The arch of the covenant that carried
Tablets of the laws, Aaron’s sprouted rod and,
Manna, that came down from heaven
For Israelites to feed on physically and spiritually
The Virgin Mary carried the Son of God,
The Promised Messiah in her virgin womb.

According to God’s brilliant plan,
Mary delivered her son in Bethlehem
Known as the home of bread,
In a manger as the poorest of the poor
For the sake of the poor of the world.
Can’t we call her the Arch of the Covenant?

Sufferings and challenges, part of the fulfillment
Of promises, great and small.
The Virgin Mary, patient and humble
Faithfully waited in the fulfilment
Of God’s promise in his time.
Her heart throbbed in love and joy.
