Smiles on their faces like thousands of burning lanterns.

I made them smile again - my heart lifts and sinks again.

Without even trying, I seem to grant wishes.

Wishes that they did not even speak aloud.

I am happy for them - no one should be in pain.

Yet, I find myself there.

I dare not make a wish for myself. That would be selfish.

Who would even grant it?

The gift I carry is heavy.

So much so that I laugh so as not to cry.

They say the pain will end.

Must it be this way?
