An Idle Wish

I never thought that I should care
   To be a clinging vine,
But now I know I'd like to be
One if the choice were mine.

I'd show no interest in the mean
   Details of daily living.
Clinging vines just simply cling
   Without fear or misgiving.

I'd not repair the iron cord,
Nor change a blown out fuse.
That utter helplessness appeal
   I surely should not lose.

I'd dump responsibilities
   Into my husband's lap.
With that job done I'd heave a sigh
   And calmly take a nap.

Of course, I'd make him feel his worth;
   His praises always sing.
Oh, it would be an easy life
If I could learn to "cling"!
