waves so bittersweet

There you are!
I dreamt I fell asleep without you in my arms,
my cheeks and pillow sticky with the sadness of my heart,
a reverie so lonely I was sure that you were far.

Here with me…
Bitter truths are never sweeter than a dream of us could be.
I close my eyes, for I can feel what arms don’t have to see
and convince the midnight haze of a perfection I believe.

Where’ve you gone?
I reach and find a nothing there that whispers I was wrong.
Alas, I am alone in a night forever long.
Please dip me back in waves of you and coyly linger on.

I wrote my first poem at the age of 10. Although I enjoyed reading and writing poetry, I didn't truly appreciate it until a few years ago. At 21 I started really writing for myself as a release. It has surely become my escape, my late night ritual, my confession. I feel honored to be a part of this community where so many talented poets come together.
