Twilight

I look and see the twilight falling
in the distance a raven calling
so I seek some shelter from
the cold as I feel darkness come

"Is there ever hope?" asks I
Staring through the dimming sky.
I strain to hear but nothing's said
only whispers of mounting dread.

Then I see a wondrous sight
A child looks up into the night
And sees his mother sitting there
A simple smile and a heart of care

And I realized with insight clear
That even though the dark draws near
There is always hope to carry on
until the coming of the dawn.
