Total Devastation

Spent cartridges scattered, her life's totally shattered.
Her once unified nation, annihilated by ammunition.
Sonia traumatised; they took away papa. Mama,
auntie Amanda; now but nostalgic memories.
Their pleading and screaming still echoes,
"Run for your life Sonia! Run! She ran.
But they couldn't make it.
Looking behind; the ruins kept smoldering;
rampaging soldiers, grisly slaughter!
In the name of liberating the nation.
Where's her sister Sylvia? She wonders.
Sonia heard the gunshots; can't understand why.
Tears cloud her eyes, told Sylvia's gone to glory.
Who'll take care of her? Sonia's only seven.
Only by the grace of God, she survived the odds.
Sonia now an amputee, and livin' as a refugee.
