these winter engines

each night
as wellingtons sleep
the equalliser counts away the score

and when,
from electric clarion call
in ghost darkness
the daily balance is wound,
the morning gathers up it's virgin altars
and breathes snowpure at the earth

this transitory firmament in constant flux
the great unending
and so,
as such;

the melt
is measured out
in spoons of sunbright morning.
in spoons
the sunbright morning
lends impatience to the melt.

(these winter engines power silent changes in the gloom
and drive the shining poem in my veins)
