There Goes The Light In The Hallway

There Goes The Light In The Hallway
it goes out this time every night
usually after he's been drinking a while
it's after that he's ready to fight
why does she stay when he treats her this way
her love is so much stronger than mine
God, can't they see what this doing to me
'cause I know it's just a matter of time before
he says she fell down the stairs again
she tripped when she turned out the light
but God we know what's going on in that room, she's getting beat ever night
if she doesn't leave now
find a way out somehow
he's going to kill her someday
like when the spoons on the sink didn't get put away
she came awful close to dying that day
her eye's were black her lips were torn and her throat was a three shade of red
i begged her to leave, to run away with me
but she said if she tried she'd be dead
well if she stay's, she'll leave someday
but it won't be while she still walks
for staying with him gives her one guaruntee,
she'll leave, but she'll leave in a box
he's not gonna stop, he likes it too much.
sometimes I think he has fun.
so I'll say a prayer to the Man upstairs,
that she'll still be here when he's done.
so God, so help me please.
I'm down on my knees, please help her leave him somehow.
'cause there goes the light in the hallway,
it goes out every night around now.

Sharon Cipparrone

I wrote my first poem about my dad leaving between 11-12 years old. Mostly about events in my life, hoping to reach anyone in need, to make someone's life a little better. Maybe someone out there, will hear something they need to hear. Gob Bless You All! more…
