The Rise and Fall of Childhood

Days are as bright as the darkest night,
Brother flying his new kite.
Light is as white as the darkest hour,
Father singing in the shower.
Heat is as hot as the coldest day,
Mother carrying the dinner tray.

Years shuffle by in humble motion,
Stubbornly moving with forward thrusts.
Dreams rise and fall like the ocean's water,
Lives come and go like the snow last Winter.

Hopes are forgotten out of the blue,
Never again to be sought.
Emotions are worn like a model's clothes,
Loves form and break like a house of cards.

Brother as old as the newest fad,
Days are few to be had.
Father as dead as the livest born,
Light is something to mourn.
Mother as far as the closest grave,
Heat is Mother Nature's slave.

A glistening fetus,
Has now turned to dust.
