The Red Raincoat

The red raincoat
I wore when I was seven,
With trophy-gold ornate indents
Swirling about every button
Majestic down upon the finish,
Creates this ordinal gaze
Of my heraldic display
Piece of proud armor,
Against the many rains to come
That came, as many floods over
Like bricks upon my appendages
That hold me captive still;
As the drops do stipple onward
A pathway to the levee...
As the water still rises
As I still rise above the water,
Of the many storms to come
That came before this life my own
Afloat, ahead the thunder warns
Me still, the smell
Of vinyl lingers...
