The Greatest Gift

Snow is falling with the night;
Fireplace warms with golden light
A Christmas tree with candy canes,
by a window's frosty panes

Little ones tucked in their beds
Mommy's kiss upon their heads
Little dreams of childhood cheer
Santa and his eight reindeer

Stockings hung, large and small
Below the wreath upon the wall
Milk and cookies with a note
A poem little Amy wrote...

Dear Santa, I am nine years old
I hope the cookies didn't get cold
The doll I wanted, kindly save her
I need a more important favor

Mommy said we have this friend
Whose birthday's in the morning, and
Since all the roads to town are iced
Could you give my doll to Mr. Christ?

A tear rolled down his rosy cheek
As Santa's sack fell by his feet
And Jesus smiled; his heart alift.
This was indeed the greatest gift!
