Sweet, sweet, sarcasm

"Write a poem." they say, as if it were easy.
I ask "what about?" and then they get greedy.
"An epic." one says, "a ballad" another
but then comes the trump
"A love story."
Oh brother.
I ask them what mood, and clamor will reign
they want a tragedy with bloodshed and pain.
I sigh and I write them a gory sob story but it ain't good enough. "There's not any glory!"
I growl and rewrite as a narrative type,
retelling the past few hours with hype
portraying myself as a hero oppressed
who got sick of the critics...

And killed them.

My Best!

Deanna Coghlan

I am a reformed, homeschooled, 16 yo christian. I love reading, tree climbing, sad songs, sad poems, and mushy poems. I love working hard with friends, listening to sufjan stevens, the eagles, aerosmith, over the rhine, iron and wine, the postal service, and I hate working alone. I hate spiders, centipedes, and any other bugs with a lot of hair, legs or general body mass. I love earl grey tea, windy days, grassy fields, and creeks. I love wandering, and hopping fences. I love hugs when I'm sad, and kisses when I'm not. I love knives, and I like guns, and I love verbally slapping down uppity teenage boys, and making my friends laugh with a good (or bad) joke. I hate finding out that someone doesn't like me, or that I don't like them. I always like knowing exactly where I stand with my friends. And I will always write poetry. more…
