Snap

Sitting on the runway
I wondered,
would the force of take off
be strong enough
to snap the snares
of the past seven years?

Half way down the run way,
would my pores seep the nervousness
that emptied potato chip bags?
Would the much too early frown lines
above my eyes be pulled taught again?

Roaring down the runway,
I slithered out a smile once past
the point of no return
that mark where the pilot must
against all human nature
demand that we fly
