Sid and Nancy

on a Sunday afternoon
when no one was paying attention
we disappeared into the belly of a fish
to drink and to dance
to indulge in the glory of each other's touch
it felt like Tuck Everlasting
eating pancakes at midnight
and cigarettes for breakfast
only the walls of this beast remember
our fingerprints all over the debris
that formed our foolish bedframe
and doubled as our grave
on our dizzy toes we spun
until breathless and giggling we collapsed
took one tandem breath
and nose to nose fell exultantly to sleep
