Reverie of a Moment

Beauty in a way that I'd never known.
The night, the still air, the Spring under the moon.
We take hands and walk through the town,
as if it had always been, as if it will always be.
I ache to hold it still forever.
But the night will continue on.
So instead I concede, and I submit to each moment,
for the last will eventually fade,
and the morning will come again.

Alas the birds sing, and the sun shines into my room.
I see my clothes on the floor as I'd left them the night before.
I can still feel your hand in mine.
But I know I hold nothing.
I smell your perfume, but residue on my skin.
The day returns as I wake, and the night becomes a memory.
And there I lay, staring at the ceiling.
I feel my eyes unfocus as the reverie slips into my mind.
I render myself powerless, and allow it to be,
for this is the only way we may ever be together again.
