Portrait of Love Lost

Sounds of wolves at the door,
echoing forth through tarnished halls,
a house no longer called home,
memories run rampant,
razing corridors of a broken heart,
remains of a body once warm with life,
now just bitter dust,
it enters a raging frenzy,
this beast left alone so long,
seeking a loving hand,
a solace that ended with death,
until it discovers the portrait,
perfect image of the comforts Death stole,
and the monster, the lonely child,
weeps.
