Beckoning of the Reaper

My heart aches and burns,
the result of long yearning,
wanting for your loving embrace,
hoping one day soon you would arrive;
yet here now I lie,
alone but for your shadow,
standing above me,
menacing, cruel, and tall,
mocking me with a sardonic smile,
tell me I should have been careful;
all I can do is stare into your black eyes,
strength ebbing away,
so long I searched for you,
now found, I abhor you,
begging forgiveness, wishing you gone,
and still you grin;
my final shudder comes, life extinguished,
life I just realize is precious,
the last breath fills your quota,
you turn away,
your job done.
