Pennies In The Wishing Well

back then when things was going well for us
you told me everything would be okay
but then you went and changed your mind
now i worry about our future together each and every day
you think i'm psychic so i try to read your mind
then you tell me i shouldn't read into every single word you say
now our relationship is going through an awkward phase
slowly withering away like a rose bouquet

now you cant even stand to look me in the eye
the truth is i can't even begin to understand why you would even lie
you promised me we would move on with it
but you drained my heart like it was a kitchen sink
throwing pennies into the wishing well
thinking of our past and feeling bitter as hell
you even have the nerve to blame it all on me
well if you feel that way, then stop calling me

walking home from a bar in the bronx at night
wondering how i could have made things right
still remember our first date at that yankee game
and our first kiss we shared on the subway train
i told you we could go eat anywhere you want
and you said you wanted to go all the way to brooklyn to dine at a japanese restaurant
now all i have is all our precious memories
but when i think about it now, i guess we weren't meant to be
