Opening Morning

A round of shooting mards the opener of hunting
the crisp, cool breeze nips at my face
there are an abundance of ducks
on the serene surface of Pelican Lake
"Mark!", my buddy said
"There, on the water at twelve o''clock
I took the safety off my gun
Then I saw the massive flock
They swung around once,
They swung around twice,
Then cupped and committed I pulled the trigger
And the ducks hit the water in mid-flight
