Not All Which Seem Well End Well
Be careful what you wish for;
You might end up with the devil and his pitchfork.
We asked for asphalt,
now we get asphalt.
The soles burning on Pit Street are all our fault.
Bare feet travel best on dirt road;
We acquire this wisdom ‘cause we’re dirt poor.
Everyone hollers with jubilation
when they imposed tolls on motorists
to improve road condition.
Now wretched tongues chorus in lamentation,
when naked soles touch red-hot asphalt.
The soles burning on Pit Street are all our fault.
Dirt-browned feet are more tolerable
than the feeling of walking on hot coals.
The tepid earth is therapeutic to every sole.
Concrete can be cruel in the summer’s heat.
Warm dirt is pleasant between the toes.
Asphalt is no easy street.
Be careful what you wish for;
you might end up with the devil and his pitchfork.
We asked for asphalt.
Now we get asphalt.
The soles burning on Pit Street are all our fault.
