Missing

Black Man, Black Man, Father of Mother Earth
Where are your children? Where have you left them?
They may be out there, somewhere hurt.

You said you would be there
See them, hear them, watch them grow
Love them, protect them, keep them safe from harm
But, where did you go?

Long ago, taken by force, abandoned your children, not by will
Today, as matter of choice, get up, walk away, leave
Cause thats how you feel.

The children are left struggling, holding on with little hope
praying and awaiting your return everyday, with a very short rope.

Young innocense is dying in the body, but mostly in the mind
Cause, lost and missing black fathers are hard to find.

So many of your sons, grow up repeating what they lived
Becoming a missing black father with nothing to give.

Your daughters blossom, with no secure man to look up to
So what does she find? An exact replica of you.

The cycle continues, where does it end?
The children need Black Fathers on whom, they can depend.

With that said, can you answer this question, are you missing?

Note from the author:
This poem is not a representation of all black men. There are many that go above and beyond the call of duty. And I salute them. But for those that make the choice to abandon responsibility for the innocent lives they bring into this world, it must be called out.

Sable Phoenyx

Expressing myself through the art of words has become my saving grace. It has allowed me to feel emotions that were locked away, deep within my soul. It has allowed me to open my being and share when I was once too uncertain how these words would be accepted. The poems I have written are a reflection of me and my life. They are filled with joy, pain, anger, love, sadness, courage and most important God. I don't know how each person reading my words will interpret them, but I hope they can find some comfort, some happines, some understanding and maybe even some direction to the uncovered gem that may be hidden inside them. more…
