Lonely

This loneliness I feel
comes to consume me
day and night,
night and day:
A palpable presence
that I can feel.

I think of our times together;
They will never come again,
so sad.
I remember the good,
and I forget the bad.
But I remain alone.

My heart cries now
to learn the life lesson here.
But I don't know
how to pass the test.
And, until I do,
I will be where I started
when I met you,
But one level lower

of lonely.
