Inner-city spring snow recedes
As if one of the "Seven Veils"
Of Salome's dance was removed,
And we wait . . . forget one more veil. . . .

Not to tear away the mystery
With impatient harsh hands of force,
But to let her rhythms and rhymes
Become a dance and flower forth!

In time she may reveal her heart--
Three blue robin's eggs in a nest;
The secret of the universe:
Her heart-womb, North, East, South, and West

As sure as the law of Moses--
Certain as a law of science--
If we open our own heart's nest,
She'll reveal Love's living science!
